Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists to fill, dispense prescriptions for customers. This role includes assisting customers at counter, retrieving prescriptions, ringing up customers, ordering/stocking drugs, supplies, and over-the-counter merchandise and updating patient records and inventory, processing invoices, and making accounting entries using computerized system.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Assists customer at counter, receives written prescriptions for Pharmacists, retrieves filled prescriptions.
- Rings up orders.
- Receives payment, makes change, processes checks, credit and debit charges.
- Provides prompt and courteous customer service.
- Answer phones, directs customers to product location.
- Assists Pharmacists in updating patient profile and entering prescriptions information into the pharmacy computer to extent allowable by State law.
- Preserves patient confidentiality.
- Assists Pharmacist in filling prescriptions by bringing stock bottles, counting, pouring, restocking, labeling, and pricing prescriptions under direct Pharmacist’s supervision to the extent allowable by State law.
- Follows safety and security procedures.
- Prepares third-party insurance claims, processes invoices, and makes accounting entries using computerized system.
- Orders, receives, tags, and stocks prescription drugs and supplies. Follows product storage procedures and standards.
- Creates products signs.
- Cleans department by sweeping, mopping, spraying, wiping, and dusting.
- Empties trash and operates trash compactor and cardboard baler.
- Operate computer, phone, fax, printer, manual pallet jack, computerized order/inventory system, cash register, handheld scanner, trash compactor, cardboard baler.
- Performs other functions as necessary or assigned.
Experience/Education:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Complete State, National, or NACDS technical training as required by State.
- National, State, or NACDS certification, registration, or license as Pharmacy Technician as required by State.
- Pharmacy experience preferred.
- Computer, math, and customer service skills preferred.

Working Environment
Work is performed in a store setting with ability to speak and receive phone communications often. Work requires computer usage with strength, dexterity, coordination and visual acuity to use keyboard and video display terminal and other office equipment. Continuously standing, walking, reaching at/below shoulders, frequently lift/carry up to 10 pounds below waist, up to 50 pounds at waist/chest and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
