Overall Purpose
The Data Analyst I supports the daily operational needs of the Data Engineering team. This role focuses on validating incoming data files, assisting with routine data quality checks, and helping load data into our core systems and reporting environments. Under close guidance from senior analysts and engineers, this position helps ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timely availability across the organization.
Essential Functions
- Validate incoming and outbound data files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established formats.
- Assist with loading and staging data into databases and core data platforms.
- Perform ad-hoc data pulls, basic analyses, and reporting requests for internal stakeholders.
- Support data engineers and senior analysts on enterprise data warehouse (EDW) initiatives, including documentation, data validation, and routine operational tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Foundational understanding of data concepts, including data quality, data validation, and relational databases.
- Basic experience working with SQL to query, filter, and analyze structured data.
- Familiarity with data tools and platforms such as Excel, Power BI, or basic SQL clients.
- Awareness of data warehouse and ETL/ELT concepts (e.g., staging, cleansing, transformation).
- Ability to perform careful validation of incoming and outgoing files with strong attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus but not required.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to learn technical concepts quickly.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
Experience
- 0–2 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, data entry, or related technical roles (internships welcome).
- Exposure to SQL, spreadsheets, and basic data tools through coursework, internship, or prior work.
- Experience performing data validation, quality checks, or simple data transformations is a plus.
- (Preferred) Experience working with healthcare data or in a regulated environment (e.g., HIPAA) but not required.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or experience.
