As a Thermal Engineering Intern at Lunar Outpost EU, you will support the analysis of hardware designed for the lunar surface. This internship will focus on the thermal analysis workflows with industry standard software Thermica and how to improve the engineering quality of these by implementing a Python-based post-processing library. You will be introduced to thermal engineering workflows from design modelling, through analysis, to TVAC testing & test correlations with LOEU’s in-house facilities, to improve the understanding of all processes involved in this project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Python Post-Processing: Build out a library of Python tools to process and evaluate thermal data sets and automate key performance indicator visualizations using efficient data structures.
  • API Utilization: Use existing tools’ APIs to automate workflows in aerospace standard thermal analysis software.
  • Test Correlation: Support TVAC test campaigns and the data processing thereafter to improve thermal model correlation workflows.
  • Automated Optimizations: Implement optimization algorithms to automatically iterate on model parameters to find best matches between data sets.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the thermal engineering team to ensure real-world applicability of your work.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python, ideally including the NumPy and pandas libraries, and writing properly documented & commented code.
  • Experience with thermal analysis for space applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work methodically in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.
  • Exhibits strong organizational and time management skills.
