Your Role & Its Purpose:
The Software Integration Engineer is a senior-level technical lead responsible for the design, delivery, technical governance, and production readiness of healthcare and pharmacy-system integrations. The position leads Software Integration Engineers in the execution of integration work, establishes technical direction and standards, reviews and approves engineering deliverables, and serves as the primary technical escalation point for the integration team. The role combines hands-on integration engineering with formal technical leadership and independent decision authority across complex and nonstandard integrations. The position does not have formal people-management responsibilities at hire.
How You’ll Contribute:
- Provide formal technical leadership to Software Integration Engineers, including assignment coordination, work prioritization, technical direction, mentoring, and day-to-day guidance.
- Own the technical quality and delivery outcomes of integration work performed by Software Integration Engineers within the assigned lead scope.
- Lead customer discovery sessions; translate business, workflow, and interoperability requirements into approved technical integration specifications.
- Independently design and approve integration approaches, interface specifications, data mappings, API requirements, transformation logic, validation rules, reconciliation methods, error handling, and related technical controls.
- Design and lead complex or nonstandard integrations that require engineering judgment beyond established implementation patterns.
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for Software Integration Engineers and direct the diagnosis and resolution of complex integration, data, configuration, and workflow issues.
- Own and approve technical readiness before production release, including design completion, configuration validation, test evidence, defect disposition, documentation, and release-readiness requirements.
- Conduct formal peer review and approval of integration designs, mappings, configurations, technical documentation, test evidence, and other engineering deliverables.
- Establish and maintain integration engineering standards, reusable design patterns, technical governance, documentation standards, testing practices, simulator scenarios, and implementation toolkits.
- Build and modify PMSS Connect mappings and flows in Decisions for standard, complex, and nonstandard customer integrations.
- Configure and validate customer-side technical requirements, including endpoints, APIs, credentials, certificates, Entra / identity provider (IDP) configuration, and secure connectivity requirements.
- Lead integration testing, including test strategy, test-case development, simulator execution, system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT) coordination, defect triage, and technical resolution.
- Use SQL and application/integration logs for advanced data validation, reconciliation, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Serve as a key technical contact throughout the customer integration lifecycle, maintaining technical requirements, decisions, risks, configuration records, test evidence, and customer-specific documentation.
- Collaborate with Software Engineering, Product, Security, Implementation, and other stakeholders to ensure integrations align with approved architecture, security expectations, product capabilities, and operational workflows.
- Coach Software Integration Engineers on integration architecture, healthcare interoperability standards, troubleshooting methodology, documentation quality, and engineering best practices.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible software, systems, interface, or integration engineering experience, including substantial hands-on responsibility for production integrations.
- Demonstrated technical-lead experience, including at least two (2) years coordinating technical work, mentoring engineers, conducting peer review, or providing technical direction to other integration or software professionals.
- Advanced working knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards and integration methods, including HL7, FHIR, X12, NCPDP, REST APIs, web services, and flat-file integrations.
- Demonstrated experience designing complex or nonstandard integrations and independently selecting or approving technical approaches within established enterprise architecture and security requirements.
- Hands-on experience building or configuring integrations using an interface engine, rules engine, integration platform, middleware platform, or comparable technology.
- Advanced SQL proficiency for data validation, reconciliation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze application and integration logs, isolate complex defects, determine root cause, and direct technical resolution.
- Experience establishing or applying technical standards, reusable integration patterns, peer-review controls, testing practices, and production-readiness criteria.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple integration workstreams, prioritize technical work, manage competing delivery requirements, and maintain accountability for technical quality and schedule commitments.
- Strong written and verbal communication, technical documentation, customer facilitation, stakeholder-management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Even Better If You Bring:
- Experience in pharmacy fulfillment, healthcare, health technology, or another regulated technology environment.
- Experience with pharmacy management systems, EHR/EMR platforms, healthcare interface engines, or interoperability ecosystems.
- Experience with PMSS Connect, Decisions, integration simulators, or comparable integration technologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise customer onboarding and production integrations in Agile or hybrid SDLC environments.
- Relevant interoperability, cloud, integration-platform, or software-engineering certification.
