The Role We Want You For

The Payroll Tax Administrator ensures accurate and timely filing, payment, and reconciliation of payroll taxes. This role manages federal, state, and local tax compliance, resolves tax authority inquiries, maintains unemployment and workers’ compensation rates in JD Edwards, and collaborates with internal teams and third-party administrators.

The Specifics of the Role:

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing and payment of payroll tax returns for five companies, including federal, state, and local withholding taxes, Social Security, and unemployment taxes on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve inquiries and notices from federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
  • Reconcile payroll tax filings and payments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Verify proper tax deposit frequencies and employer identification numbers for each taxing agency and ensure payroll systems reflect accurate information.
  • Maintain and update State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rates in the JDE system to prevent overpayment of unemployment taxes; communicate updates to all payroll units.
  • Maintain Workers’ Compensation rates for each company and state within the JDE system.
  • Collaborate with payroll, treasury, accounts payable, and tax teams to support accurate payroll tax operations.
  • Coordinate with third-party unemployment administrators by providing required information related to unemployment claims.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of one year of payroll experience required.
  • Payroll tax experience preferred.
  • Construction and union payroll experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly entrepreneurial environment, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
