The Role We Want You For

The Senior Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Engineer will become a strategic asset within a growing business unit and the key member of our project teams for the most creative builder in America. As part of VDC team you will be involved in a range of activities throughout the design-build cycle that are essential for a successful project delivery. These activities include support and implementation of Clayco’s Digital Practice Technology in a variety of tasks as they relate to design analysis, design process, pre-construction, construction, and the facility handover. This is a critical support role with opportunity to become one of our VDC industry experts.

The Specifics of the Role

  • Execute and manage a range of duties related to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), supporting workflows from design and preconstruction engineering through project completion.
  • Assist design build team to facilitate 3D and 2D coordination.
  • Liaison with the design team and project subcontractors through multitude of BIM centric activities.
  • Provide technical support for a range of BIM and VDC applications used in-house.
  • Assist with quantities extraction and scheduling.
  • Assist and coach the project teams in the use of companywide BIM best practices and including educating on software, and workflows utilized throughout the construction process.
  • Coordinate 3D content modeled by others and model any content not provided.
  • Perform 4D virtual building analysis on model working closely with scheduling, project managers, and superintendents.
  • Perform 5D virtual building analysis in close collaboration with the estimating team.
  • Perform and document collision detection on virtual building model as well as assist in conflict resolution, including reading and understanding contract documents and drawings.
  • Perform material quantity take-off of building model for conceptual estimating purposes, utilizing leading edge BIM technologies.
  • Manage model changes through design updates and as built conditions.
  • Serve as the information manager and content gatekeeper for the duration of the construction project.
  • Understand project workflow and working with subcontracts, subcontractors and self-perform work.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field), or foreign equivalent.
  • 3 years of work experience in the AEC industry.
  • 1 year of experience with VDC/BIM related processes.
  • 1 year of experience with reality capture, including FARO systems.
  • 1 year of experience with construction principles and practices.
  • 1 year of experience with Autodesk Building Design Suite (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or 3DS Max).
  • 1 year of experience with BIM 360 based technology.
  • 1 year of experience working with mid-to-large scale projects.
  • The position allows for occasional telecommuting within commuting distance of reporting office in St. Louis, MO.
  • In addition, the position requires domestic travel up to 80% of the work schedule, which will include travel and relocation to various unanticipated worksites within the continental U.S.
